Ao Nang Inn: Pictures, Reviews and Rates

The first thing to know about Ao Nang Inn is that the rooms are located above a pub. This will sound either like hell or a dream come true, depending on your holiday priorities; please read on, however, to get the full story.

The pub in question is perhaps the nicest indoor drinking hole in Ao Nang, The Irish Rover, which also serves good pub food and proper breakfasts. It's quite civilised and cosy and not at all raucous. The two rooms and two self-catering apartments on offer above it are soundproofed and the landlord, Kevin, swears there have been no complaints about noise, even from families with young children, since they opened.

The two apartments in particular are basic but good value and are geared towards families and couples for whom a traditional hotel set-up may not suit. Both enjoy hotel facilities (though the daily cleaning is sometimes neglected), yet there is no formal hotel set up so guests are left alone to follow their own schedules and may even cook their own food should they so desire.

Ao Nang Inn is found at the top of a quiet street off the main beach road, around 80m from the sea. A supermarket is around the corner and there are many restaurants and shops in the immediate vicinity. If you stay here, there will be no need to stray very far from home to find what you need.

Rooms
There are two guesthouse style rooms, double and twin, located on the first floor above the pub. They are fairly standard: nicely decorated, with air-con, satellite TV and hot water shower. They also have a small balcony overlooking the street.

The one-bedroom apartment is on the second floor above the pub. It is fairly basic and consists of a bedroom with en-suite bathroom and small balcony with seaview and a lounge area with kitchenette which opens out onto a large sun terrace.

The lounge/dining area also contains a sofa bed, which can sleep two people (though bear in mind that the only bathroom is accessed through the master bedroom). Although some of the furnishings are starting to show a little wear and tear, the rooms are in reasonable shape.

The two-bedroom apartment is also on the second floor and is much more spacious, and has an interesting layout, with a mezzanine level and high wooden ceilings. There is one big double bedroom with air con and a second room (not totally private) with twin beds on the open mezzanine. This room only has a fan, no air-con. Both rooms have access to the bathroom, which is located off the living area.

The apartment has a large open-plan area, containing the lounge, dining table and kitchenette, with a small outdoor balcony. This whole living area enjoys panoramic sea views, courtesy of two large picture windows on the west wall. This room also contains a small single sofa bed, so in theory the apartment can sleep five.

Facilities
All accommodation has air-con, hot water, satellite TV, fridge, personal digital safe and tea and coffee making facilities. The apartments also offer a basic kitchen with gas burner, sink and cooking utensils.

The Irish Rover Bar & Grill downstairs is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and meals can also be ordered to eat in-room. Ao Nang Inn guests receive a 10% discount on all food items on the menu. Car parking is not available.
