Aree Tara Resort: Pictures, Reviews and Rates

Aree Tara is the new venture from the owners of Buri Tara Resort. Superficially at least, it could be considered the "A" to its "B". Located further down the same street, Ao Nang Soi 8, which now hosts a whole swathe of brand new 4 star properties opened in 2009, Aree certainly scores higher in the style stakes than Buri Tara, with a great statement exterior and cool, clean-lined interior.

It does however suffer from the same lack of space found in its sister hotel. Rooms are a compact 33 sqm, and tower over the narrow pool. A pool access room is recommended if you don't want to fight for space on the deck!

To be fair, this problem is shared by almost all the new hotels in Ao Nang - The Small Krabi, Red Ginger, Amandari etc. - which have arrived late in the day and have relatively little space in which to establish themselves. Most of these hotels do make up for their compact size by being very design-conscious and offering a very high quality in-room experience. In Aree Tara, for instance, you will find flat panel LCD TVs, WI-FI internet access, as well as DVD player and films available for rent.

Bathrooms are tastefully appointed and - with the exception of pool access rooms - feature a full size bathub plus a walk-in shower (pool access is shower only).

The resort's location, just outside the "bright lights" of Ao Nang, but within walking distance of both Nopparat Thara and Ao Nang commercial centres, means it would make a good and quiet base for a holiday. If you plan to spend a lot of time in your hotel, however, it may be wiser to look for one of the older hotels in Ao Nang, which would have more public space and facilities. In terms of which to choose between Aree and Buri, as the prices are identical, it is a question of details - the styling in the rooms at Aree Tara is probably nicer than at Buri Tara, though it is a slightly longer walk (approx + 200m) from here to the shopping / eating areas.

Rooms
There are 70 rooms in total, classed as superior and deluxe. Deluxe rooms are ground floor with pool access, or on the higher floors. The 4 superior rooms are tucked away in a corner of the building and are slightly darker during the daytime. All rooms are identical in size and furnishings. Each has a private balcony and is very tastefully decorated in contemporary Thai style, with dark wood, cream walls and the de rigueur Thai silk cushions.

In room, you will find an LCD TV with satellite channels, fridge with mini-bar, personal safe, telephone, hairdryer, and hot water kettle (tea and coffee provided). Bathrooms offer bathtub (except pool access) and separate shower. Toiletries are provided.

Note: the pool access rooms may not be suitable for young children as there is no barrier around the terrace to prevent running / jumping / falling into the water.
