Baan Banyan Tree: Pictures, Reviews and Rates

A cheap and cheerful guesthouse in an excellent location, Baan Banyan Tree would suit those looking to be very central, but requiring only a clean room with the basic facilities and no frills. One of only a handful of places situated directly on the beach front road, half the rooms - including a more fancy penthouse suite - enjoy a partial sea view across Nopparat Thara bay; the other half face inland, with a view towards the mountains.

The commercial centre of Ao Nang is a short walk or drive away, though there is also plenty on the doorstep, including seafood restaurants, bars and the departure point for longtail boat charter to the islands.

The downstairs lobby of Baan Banyan Tree houses a small lounge area with library, an internet corner and tables and chairs out on the patio, where breakfast is taken. Please note, as a Muslim-owned establishment, breakfasts will be Halal (no pork). The guesthouse also offers the usual tour booking services, motorbike rental etc. Overall, a good budget choice.

Rooms
There are 10 rooms in all, average sized and nicely decorated. Each has an accent wall in an intense purple, green, pink or yellow colour, and co-ordinating linen. Rooms feature a TV, fridge with minibar and basic furniture (wardrobe and desk). Bathrooms are ensuite with hot water shower, sink and western flushing toilet. All are air conditioned and have double (queen size) beds. A couple of twin bed rooms are available, though these are located in the interior of the building so do not have a window (or rather have a window looking out over the stairwell, which is effectively useless). We do not recommend you stay here unless you absolutely must have twin single beds.

The top floor (stairs only) contains a larger "suite", consisting of a separate lounge and bedroom. This enjoys more unimpeded sea views. The lower floor front facing rooms have a less clear view due to buildings opposite, so have been renamed from "sea view" to "balcony" rooms as this is their main distinguishing feature; mountain view rooms have no exterior sitting area at all.

Note: the road / sea - facing rooms do have insulated glass, but light sleepers should be aware that there is a beach bar directly opposite Baan Banyan Tree playing music that might keep you awake in the night.
