City Hotel: Pictures, Reviews and Rates

City Hotel, as its name suggests, is bang in the middle of Krabi Town centre, directly opposite the excellent night market and around the corner from the river and the main shopping drag. It is also conveniently located for local transport to the beach areas of Ao Nang, Nopparat and Klong Muang.

Whereas its location used to be its only selling point, the once-grubby City Hotel has recently received a much-needed revamp with an attractive, glass-fronted lobby and a whole new wing of smart-ish rooms. These are the only rooms we recommend here; there are fan-only standard rooms in the old part of the building, but, when we went to visit, the corridor was so dark, we didn't dare venture down it!

The new building is the 'day' to its 'night', however. City Hotel is a key landmark in the hustle and bustle of Krabi Town; if you would like to feel part of local life, yet stay in comfort, this is the place for you. It also has the advantage of most hotels in town: no seasonal fluctuation in price - except over the two major New Year festivals.

Rooms
There are three types of room in the new block, overlooking the street or other buildings and arranged over 4 floors, with a lift service. All come with air-con, cable TV, minibar and hot water shower as standard and are fully carpeted (except in the bathroom). The decor is tasteful and linen etc. is of a good quality.

Standard rooms are average-sized with a double or twin bed and basic furniture, including chairs and table. The deluxe rooms can accommodate three people (and are priced accordingly - with no reduction for single or double occupancy), with a double and a single bed, and are larger in size.

The superior rooms are designed for families with two large single beds and one king-size double, behind a semi-private wall. Fights over who can watch the TV have been anticipated with a handy swivel stand to face kids' or parents' side of the large room.

Both deluxe and superior rooms also come with free drinking water, a bathtub and direct dial telephone.

Note: car parking is not possible here as the street outside is busy; however you can park a short walk away on a side street. There is also no restaurant; but it is possible to find a whole variety of food, including breakfast, within a few metres of the hotel.
