Pictures of Krabi after the December 2004 tsunami
Note: this page is an archive of information posted on a previous version of the Your Krabi site. It was created to disseminate information directly from the Krabi area in the wake of the 26 December 2004 tsunamis in the Indian Ocean. It has not been updated since January 2005, but has been kept in its original form for those who are interested in how events took place in the months following the tsunami.

POST-TSUNAMI PICTURES FROM AO NANG BEACH - 31 Dec 2004
Around ten of the surviving longtail boats made a return to the beach today.
The beach road has been completely cleaned and is open to traffic as usual.
All the shops and restaurants are open again - from the corner of Phra Nang Inn (left) to the far side near Wanna's Place (right).
The pavement outside Wanna's Place.
The other, more damaged part of the beach has also been cleaned up. The Last Fisherman (missing the middle bar and the kitchen) is welcoming guests once again.
The beach in front of Last Fisherman is actually busier than usual as tourists are currently unable to find boats to go to the islands.
The small beach road alongside the resorts is open again. Left is Phra Nang Inn, which suffered slight superficial damage to its restaurant (note the missing wooden balustrade along the wall).
The seaview bungalows at Golden Beach Resort are all intact...
... as is its restaurant and front wall. Ao Nang Villa Resort (not pictured) is also absolutely fine.
Finally, a picture taken on 28/12/04, in Ao Nang Center Point, where the bars are as full as always.
POST -TSUNAMI PICTURES FROM NOPPARAT THARA BEACH - 31 December 2004
The popular Luna Bar on the corner of Klong Haeng suffered superficial damage; no one was injured.
The road outside Ao Nang Buri Resort and Srisuksant Resort was already sandy before the tidal wave, from ongoing construction work to create a beachside walkway. There was no damage to either of these hotels.
A few tourists and some pick-nicking Thai people made a return to the beach in Nopparat Thara today.
PICTURES FROM THE POST-TSUNAMI CLEAN-UP
Right, all the rubbish (mostly plants and small debris) washed up onto the beach in Ao Nang has been put into plastic bags awaiting collection. Left, most of the 30-40 longtail boats parked in Klong Haeng have been lifted out of the water for repair.
A truck drives through Ao Nang village taking away the large debris (mostly from broken boats) washed up on the beach.
Teams of young volunteers from the local colleges help lift the longtail boats out of the water and onto makeshift 'dry docks' on Nopparat Thara beach for repair.
Meanwhile, volunteers from Surat Thani have arrived to fix the recovered motors of longtail boats for free.
