Krabi Resort: Pictures, Reviews and Rates

Krabi Resort is the "grande dame" of Ao Nang. The very first true hotel (as opposed to backpacker huts) in the village, it was opened in the early 1980s (bringing electricity and running water to the few homes then on the beach front), and to this day enjoys probably the best location and most spacious grounds in the area - at a time where new hotels are feeling increasingly cramped and are much further away from the beach.

Krabi Resort's prime location means it can offer direct beach access - the one and only hotel in Ao Nang to be able to make that claim (all others are on the other side of the busy road that runs along most of the sea front). The absence of the road means that the end of the beach it fronts is very quiet and private - effectively (though not officially) for the sole use of its guests.

The 175 rooms in the grounds are of varying size and quality, which is to be expected from a hotel that has evolved over nearly 30 years. Some are brand new; others recently refurbished; while some are little more than rapidly fading reminders of their former glory.

Below are the hotel room descriptions, with our comments on each (rates can be found by clicking the tab towards the top of this page):

Bungalows: Thai traditional style scattered throughout the resort's garden. Separated into the following categories:
Standard: oldest rooms, bookable only directly with the resort.

Deluxe Garden View: Thai traditional décor; En-suite facilities with shower and bathtub; Individually controlled air-conditioning; Dressing table; Fully stocked minibar; Hair dryer; Tea and coffee making facilities; IDD telephone; Broadband Internet access on Wi-Fi (surcharge); Private terrace with chairs; Satellite TV, including CNN, BBC, Deutsche TV, NHK etc.

These rooms are located in the third to sixth rows (C - F) behind the beach, in freestanding and semi-detached units. Some were not included in the recent refurbishment (2008) and could do with freshening up.

Deluxe Sea View: Exactly the same facilities as Deluxe Garden View (above), but recently renovated and with the prime beachfront location - rows A and B. Row A is "absolute beachfront"; rooms in Row B have a partial seaview. Room location can be requested but unfortunately not guaranteed, especially during high season months. Every Sea view bungalow is a free standing unit (no shared terrace space).

There are also 2 larger "Suite Bungalows" which feature an outdoor jacuzzi tub; these are also only bookable directly with the resort.

Pool Villa: 55sqm suite bungalow with same facilities as Deluxe Garden View (above), plus in room safe, complimentary hot drinks, private garden and jacuzzi plunge pool (approx 6m length). These two units offer very private rooms, close to the sea, but with garden views - ideal for honeymooning couples.

Hotel Buildings: Comfortably furnished rooms with a modern twist.
Deluxe Hotel Rooms: Same facilities as the Deluxe Bungalows (above). This room category is located either in an older (refurbished) 2 -storey building right next to the swimming pool or in a brand new 4 storey building completed in 2009, located towards the mountain at the back of the resort. Some rooms can be connecting for families.

Suite Hotel: Two bedrooms (1 double + 1 twin), 1 bathroom, with same facilities as the Deluxe bungalows (above), plus a work desk, small living area and pantry and in-room safe. These units are located next to the pool in the older hotel building and pack a lot of furniture into a relatively small space.

Grand Room (Luxury Villa): Same facilities as Deluxe Bungalows, plus a sunken double tub in the bathroom, in room safe, complimentary hot drinks and a small pantry. These rooms are located at the corners of the new hotel block and enjoy mountain views. Though not in fact larger than the normal Deluxe Hotel rooms, they are certainly grander, with an impressive octagonal bedroom, wrap around terrace and oversized bathroom with a large sunken bathtub.

Resort facilities include a beachfront restaurant, large pool with fenced children's area, and the usual tour and excursion service (including an on-site scuba diving school), laundry, doctor on call, 24 hour security and off-street parking. The shops and restaurants of Ao Nang Beach are right on your doorstep, via the street entrance to the resort.
