Phu Pha Ao Nang Resort: Pictures, Reviews and Rates

Phu Pha Ao Nang Resort is a brand new (2010) boutique style hotel that takes nature as its inspiration and transforms it into a gorgeous and unique place to stay. Owned by a native Ao Nang lady, it offers excellent value as well as a chance to support the local economy.

The accommodation is laid out around a swimming pool and surrounded by beautiful green foliage and tropical flowers, with a backdrop of the towering Ao Nang cliffs that border the resort grounds.

Each pair of the 24 rooms is made entirely from a different tropical wood (and different panelling designs) - hence the complicated naming system found on some websites; unless you have a preference for a particular grain, there are only two room categories that make any difference - deluxe and superior.

Superior rooms have both double bed and twin bed options (doubles are on the ground floor, while twin singles are on the upper floor), and also can be booked as connecting pairs for families (i.e. with an interior door between them). These connecting rooms are on the ground floor only, so will have two double beds.

Deluxe rooms come with double beds only and are slightly bigger than the superior rooms and feature a bathtub with overhead shower in the bathroom, instead of the shower only in the superior rooms. Otherwise, all amenities - air conditioning, fridge, TV, personal digital safe, and WI-FI internet connection - are identical in both categories.

The resort swimming pool is a good size and offers a proper children's area with safety barrier; there is a restaurant and pool bar next to this; as well as a small massage pavilion and herbal steam room for the use of in house guests. Until the full spa opens, other treatments are currently being provided by the Bussabakorn Day Spa around 2km away (round trip transfers included in treatment rates).

Phu Pha (pronounced poo-paa, not foo-faa!) is located 800m as the crow flies from the Andaman Sea at Ao Nang Beach, though twists and turns in the road make it a 1.5km walk; the final 1km of this is lined with shops and restaurants. The resort also offers a complimentary 4 times daily shuttle service to the beach front, with return at appointed times, or on demand.

Service at the resort is friendly and personal; the romantic setting would make it an ideal honeymoon location for those on a budget, or for any couples getaway. Also worth noting for Muslim travellers: the resort is Muslim-owned, so Halal food is served here, both for breakfast and other meals.
