Phu Pi Maan Resort: Pictures, Reviews and Rates

Phu PiMaan Resort (pronounced Pu Pee Maan) is a brand new (January 2011) boutique style hotel, in the same vein as two other locally-owned resorts, Phu Pha Ao Nang and Ao Nang Cliff View, but outclassing both of those places in both accommodation standards and facilities.

The resort's name translates roughly as "resting place of the gods" and it seems the owner - an Ao Nang villager - has indeed tried very hard to make it a mini oasis in a desert of bland guesthouses. Thus Phu Pi Maan is located on a gentle slope overlooking the famous Ao Nang cliffs, and offers spectacular panoramic views from the infinity edge swimming pool at the centre of the property. Towering coconut trees have been kept on the grounds, and mixed with carefully chosen tropical foliage to create a lush garden.

The rooms themselves are spacious and tastefully appointed. They are divided into two categories; deluxe rooms and suites housed in a 3 storey block; and beautiful 1 and 2 bedroom villas located around the pool area.

Starting with the excellent value hotel rooms, these are a generous 43sqm, with polished wood floors. They come with 2 single beds (twin) or one double bed and each also has an extra single bed and a daybed that can be used as an extra sleeping area for 1 adult or 2 small children. Some are available as connecting pairs. In room facilities are 5 star (please click the tab "Essential info" near the top of this page for full details). Corner rooms with king size beds are sold as Deluxe Suites, and are slightly larger at 51sqm, with a bigger balcony and picture windows.

There are six one bedroom villas, free-standing units with a huge covered terrace for outdoor relaxation. Indoors, you will find the bedroom, which features a king-sized four poster bed and high quality cotton and silk soft furnishings. Attached to the bedroom is a small dressing area and a kitchenette (sink, fridge, kettle and microwave), with the dining table in the main living space, while the bathroom is the size of an average European hotel room! In this room is an oversized bathtub, walk-in rain shower and a separate LCD TV for watching movies in the tub.

Four two bedroom villas also have the large outdoor terrace; plus 2 connecting bedrooms, each with king sized bed. The bedrooms share a bathroom, with the same facilities as the one bedroom villas, but with a double sink unit. The kitchenette in these villas is larger with a dining table inside.

The resort facilities are equally impressive: there is a spa; a decently-equipped gym / fitness room; a library; and a reasonably good restaurant if you don't wish to dine out. Wi-Fi is available, free of charge, throughout the property and the abundance of in room amenities make this one of our current favourite places to stay in Ao Nang. The only downside of the hotel - like everywhere in Krabi - is that English is not spoken very well; nonetheless the staff seemed friendly and helpful on our visit.

The romantic setting would make Phu Pi Maan an ideal choice for a honeymoon, or for any couples getaway. The generous family policy and large rooms make it an equally good proposition for people with young children. Also worth noting for Muslim travellers: the resort is Muslim-owned, so Halal food is served here, both for breakfast and other meals.

Phu Piman is located just over 1km from the Andaman Sea at Ao Nang Beach; most of this walk is lined with shops and restaurants. The resort also offers a complimentary shuttle service to the beach front, with return on demand.
