Recent visitors to Ao Nang will have noticed that the sidewalks or pavements, which were put in just over a decade ago, are looking a little bare. All the trees along the McDonald’s side of the beach have been cut down and all the paving stones have been removed. This is part of the local council’s grand landscaping and restructuring project that is taking place over this low season (summer 2013), which will see resurfacing work, as well as the welcome undergrounding of the current tangled mess of overhead electric cables.
This is great news – long term – for safety and the also the aesthetics of the beachfront. But if you plan to visit during the next few months of rainy season, it may be advisable to pack a pair of wellington boots, as it may get a little muddy. Note the work is taking place in stages – the stretch of road (pictured) along the McDonald’s side first, with the beachfront and Krabi Resort side to follow.
