The first ever Middle Eastern restaurant in Ao Nang will open this week. Located under The White Sands Resort on the main beach road, next to Subway, it will serve traditional Arabic mezze such as hummus, baba ganoush, and fattoush, with home made pitta bread, as well as grilled kebab-style meat and curries. Pasta, seafood and Thai food are also available.
The restaurant states it is Egyptian – hence its name, Cleopatra – though the owners are both French-Algerian and Egyptian and the chef is Syrian. They already own a similar establishment in Phuket. The gimmick in Cleopatra is the after-dinner shisha or hookah pipes, filled with fruit tobacco. The restaurant is open to the street and though all food is Halal, alcohol is served.
