Topic: More holidays next year!

The Thai government has approved extended national holidays during the Songkran Festival in April and Her Majesty the Queen's birthday anniversary in August next year, with an aim to promote public participation in auspicious events and cultural activities.

Deputy Government Spokesperson MD Phumin Leethiraprasert told the press after the weekly Cabinet meeting, that the Cabinet decided to set 16 April as an additional holiday to the Songkran festival, enabling people to have six consecutive days off from 13-18 April, 2010. The Cabinet also designated 13 August as a special day off, lengthening the celebration on Her Majesty the Queen’s Birthday on 12 August to the end of the week on 15 August.

Mr Phumin said the extended holidays would also promote tourism and facilitate revelers in their travelling to the provinces.
