Topic: Somkiet Buri Resort to close for renovation

In what will come as a blow to their many return guests, the very popular Somkiet Buri Resort in Ao Nang has just announced its closure for minimum 6 months in 2009.

The resort owner, Mr Somkiet Kayankarn, who has just completed a total rebuild of his other property, Railay Village Resort, informs us that he will construct a new wing of 24 rooms - doubling the resort's current capacity - as well as completely refurbish the existing rooms.

Work will start on 21 April 2009 and is expected to be completed in December 2009 - but this being Thailand, it is unlikely that the resort will re-open before low season in April 2010.

Re: Somkiet Buri Resort to close for renovation

UPDATE: this work has now been postponed. Somkiet Buri Resort will remain open for business as usual until further notice.

Re: Somkiet Buri Resort to close for renovation

Hi, we are staying in Krabi mid June for 5 nights, do you think they will hold off renovations till 2010 or would they possibly just delay the start till further into low season. Don't want to go ahead and book for June and then find out resort to shut and we have to find alternative accommodation at last minute.
Thanks for any advice. Lee

Re: Somkiet Buri Resort to close for renovation

Hi Lee,
They definitely won't start in June this year - we have spoken to the manager there and she is saying not until summer 2010 at the earliest (if at all). The reason for the postponement is the economic downturn, so who knows how long that will last...
