Ao Nang Princeville Resort is a lovely boutique hotel in a similar style to the popular Somkiet Buri Resort. What it lacks in greenery compared with the latter, however, it more than makes up for with a great location – it is one of only a handful of resorts actually on the main beachfront road in Ao Nang.
There are 50 rooms in all, set back down a private 50-metre lane to ensure relative quiet from the throngs that pack the main thoroughfare at peak times, and decorated in a beautiful contemporary Thai style. A certain amount of care has gone into the furnishings, with a nice attention to detail. The rooms, and indeed the whole resort, are spotlessly clean.
The rooms are housed in two buildings, the original one next to the pool and a newer block in the garden. All offer sumptuous furnishings in silk and hand-carved wood; individually designed polished sandstone floors; and granite bathrooms with separate bathtub and walk-in shower. They have private balconies overlooking the small pool; upper floor rooms come with a partial sea view (the official “Deluxe Seaview” room category has recently been removed because trees now obscure the horizon).
Deluxe rooms are available with double or twin beds; for families, Ao Nang Princeville provides triple Deluxe Family rooms which are slightly larger versions of the deluxe rooms, with a large king size and single bed. Grand Deluxe rooms are larger still (though they only sleep 2) and are located on the ground and first floors next to the swimming pool (no sea view). They have a double sized jacuzzi bathtub in the room.
The swimming pool has a children’s splash pool and jacuzzi area attached. The resort also has its own restaurant, White Orchid, which serves seafood and Thai food – note that the resort owners are Muslim, from the nearby village of Klong Haeng, so all food is Halal. There is also a small massage area, close by the reception, offering Thai, foot, aromatherapy and oil massages, and a streetside cafe.
The staff at Ao Nang Princeville we found to be very friendly and helpful – many have been working there since the resort opened 15 years ago. A tour service can be found on the main beach road at the entrance to the resort – and of course, all the other amenities of Ao Nang, including the beach, are right on your doorstep.
