This highly recommended beachfront resort offers close to idyllic seclusion on a fabulous stretch of deserted beach, and at a fraction of the price of its 5-star neighbours. Although very far from the crowd, Tubkaek is still part of the mainland so is convenient to get to and from transport-wise, making both island and inland excursions possible.
The 62 room resort is laid out along a wide strip of beachfront, fronted with towering casuarina trees. The swimming pool is on the small side, but as you have direct beach access, a rare thing on the crowded mainland, this may not seem so important. There is also a decent restaurant (essential as the nearest other options are a 400 baht [one way] taxi ride away) on the beach, as well as a spa offering both massage therapy and beauty treatments.
Following recent renovations (2013), there are five room types here – the key, if you are after a special experience, is to go for anything with the word “beachfront” in the title. These are some of the only true, absolute beachfront rooms on the Krabi mainland, with incredible, unimpeded sea views. The only thing between you and the sand is a footpath and some sun loungers.
The 3 Grand Deluxe Beachfront bungalows have the best sunset views. They are ideal for honeymooners, with a big bathroom (rather oddly located between the bedroom and the terrace, see pictures above) and king size bed. The same-sized Deluxe Beachfront bungalows have a more traditional layout, with an ocean-themed decor, and also feature an outdoor shower area, in addition to the main bathroom.
The bungalows set a row back from the beach, overlooking the lawn and pool, are known as Deluxe Garden; even further away, though still within 50m of the beach, are the Deluxe Building rooms, situated in a low rise block right next to the swimming pool and offering space for two people (on the ground floor, with jacuzzi tub), or three (on the first floor, with shower only). Note that even though there are beds for three people in the latter rooms, the published rate is based on double occupancy, and a third person will be charged an extra bed rate.
The Standard Cottages are the oldest rooms in the resort and are located in a block of space starting right on the beachfront and stretching back into the garden. These are very small converted containers (no extra beds possible), but are cheerfully furnished and manage to squeeze in a bathtub and small verandah. These rooms are sold as “run-of-house” and allocation is on a first come, first served basis, which means the rows on or closest to the beachfront are filled up first.
Staff are generally very courteous and helpful. Tup Keak Sunset would make an ideal “getaway”-type holiday for honeymooners or anyone else seeking romantic seclusion in a beautiful natural setting.
