ITINERARY: These rafting programs are run by a large operator and we offer them as they are more family-oriented than the others, and also much cheaper – which is great if you are on a budget.
Travel overland to Phang Nga (around 1.5 hours) to the rafting base camp on the Songpak River. Here you will visit a forest waterfall where you can swim – this is nice, but essentially to pass the time before your rafting slot.
Around 10.30am, before boarding, you will receive a safety briefing, basic instruction and don safety equipment for the course. If you just wish to ride, but not paddle, this is also possible. Then it’s time to set off for an exhilarating run through the rapids. The 5km course takes around 45 minutes to complete. The 7km will add another 20 – 25 minutes onto the journey, and is at a slightly higher level than the basic course.
Following a buffet lunch, you will travel on to the family “safari camp” for a variety of add-on options (make your choice in the booking form above), including elephant trekking, ATV riding, Flying Fox ziplines and a chance to get your feet nibbled clean by “doctor fish”. There are also other free attractions offered periodically, such as ox-cart riding, monkey shows and rubber-tapping demonstrations. Note that the flying fox and ATV riding take place in a location a few minutes away from the main camp – there is some riding along a river, and through a plantation.
You’re kept moving throughout the day, which is good for younger ones. The downside of this place is that it has a slight “factory” feel and their animals are also made to perform, which we don’t condone.
Return to Krabi via a fruit garden where you will see various tropical fruit being grown and be offered the opportunity to buy some – it is not necessary to do so!
Expected group size: 5 – 15 pax, depending on the day and time of year. Each raft sits 4 – 5 people. There will also be other groups around at the safari camp as this company runs many different tour programs.
Important: ATV and rafting can be done by children as young as 5 (though we recommend a minimum age of 6-7 to be safe). Parents must assume full responsibility for their children. Children under the age of 12 may ride ATVs as passengers only. Children 12 – 16 years may drive if accompanied by an adult passenger.
No prior experience is required for the rafting.
Travel time from Krabi to the rafting site in Phang Nga is around 1.5 hours each way by a/c minivan.
