Krabi Municipality (Tessaban Krabi) has announced it will be opening a new bilingual Thai-English school for the new school year in 2013. Initially for primary grades 1 – 6, the school will be located on Sringkhanpattana Road in Krabi Town, close by the Poolsiri Housing Estate intersection on Maharat Road.
The school has a construction budget of 3 million baht, for a 4 storey building with 12 classrooms. Officials from the education department have been liaising with similar schools in Nakhon Sri Thammarat province in order to learn about and implement best practices and teaching methods. In most Thai bilingual or English Program schools, around 70% of teaching is done in English, with Thai language, history and culture being taught in Thai.
It is hoped the school will aid the development of Krabi and help to prepare residents for the advent of the AEC (ASEAN Economic Community) in 2015. A bilingual secondary school and regional “Andaman University” are also slated for Krabi in the next couple of years.
