In what has been a packed month thus far, Ao Nang is squeezing in one more spectacular event, the Air-Sea-Land 2012 tournament, billed as a “Pre-Asian Beach Games” – a sort of promotional roadshow in the build-up to the Asian Beach Games in 2014, which will be held for the first time in our neighbouring province of Phuket.
The Krabi event is being organised by the Royal Aeronautic Sports Association of Thailand (RASAT) and the focus will be on airbourne sports, such as paragliding and paramotoring, which will be done from the 210m summit of the Klong Haeng mountain, just behind the beach in Ao Nang. There will even be a display of “aeromodelling”, model plane flying, which has grown from being a weekend hobby into a recognised sport.
A beach Kabaddi tournament and finswimming contest are also slated for the 3 day event, which kicks off on November 30, with the action taking place on Friday and Saturday. Sunday morning will be given over to a closing ceremony.
Participants are expected from all over Asia, with Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore strongly represented.
